My interest in engineering developed from my curiosity about how buildings and infrastructure are designed, constructed and managed. I was particularly interested in the relationship between engineering design and the practical challenges involved in turning drawings and specifications into completed projects.

Throughout my engineering degree, I have developed knowledge across areas including structural engineering, construction management, project management, surveying, environmental engineering and engineering design.

Working within the construction industry has significantly strengthened my professional development. My cadetship has provided exposure to complex projects and has allowed me to understand the importance of communication, coordination, documentation, quality, safety and teamwork within the construction environment.

My experience has included assisting with design coordination, FF&E schedules, room data sheets, document registers, transmittals, project schedules, risk registers, procurement planning, quality documentation and consultant coordination.

One of the biggest areas of development for me has been becoming more confident in a professional environment. I have learned that engineering is not only about having technical knowledge; it also requires the confidence to communicate ideas, ask questions, identify problems and take responsibility for completing work.
